| A typical vineyard village with marked rural character of the northern Burgenland. It is located between the “Ruster Hills” and the “Leithagebirge” and is the last hamlet on the river “Wulka” before it disembogues into the “Neusiedler See.” The village has about 800 ha of farm land, 1000 ha of forest and 250 ha of vineyards cultivated by about 100 winegrowers. In the local dialect the village is called “Gschiass.” It is built in traditional style along and around the commons, and many of the half timbered gable houses are still well preserved. In the village centre is the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene with its baroque western façade and a fortress wall. Next to it is the main village square with the village fountain and the council house. Well preserved sculptures grace many parts of the village territory. There is also the bicycle trail R50 with connection to the bicycle trail of the “Neusiedler See.” The “Goldberg” (240 m above sea level) is a fully protected nature reserve with a species of oak typical for this area and an abundance of wild flowers and panoramic views.
